Have a friend who was working at NASA and he said they take laptops onboard the space shuttle as they way more advanced than the computers installed into it.
There is a story that this could be the included with. "Health Care System" By Charles Sheffield. My copy is in the September 1990 issue of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. Some very erotic mind control. Hopefully it is in one of his anthologies also.
