Heh. ^_^

I think I can safely say it now.

I really think the EGL look is going to become more and more mainstream over the next two, three years. Not just bits and pieces of it but large chunks of it.

Consider: _Shoujo Beat_, an anime and manga magazine I can buy at Waldenbooks at the local mall, has already had *two* EGL articles in it, and apparently, the magazine sells well, because I see more and more anime/manga magazines pop up on that rack. Where before there was just _Newtype_, you now have _Shonen Jump_, _Shoujo Beat_, and recently _Protoculture_ alongside.

And just from what I read, even in more mainstream comic-book magazines like _Wizard_, Japanese styled "costume play" or cosplay is becoming more and more mainstream and accepted as well. Basically I see EGL styles being, right now, where cosplay was a couple of years ago here in the States....something people hear of but haven't really seen yet.

Right now, locally, out in the real world where I live, there are at least *two* 20-something ladies attending the local university campus, who have gone out and *been on the bus* wearing a basic, simple EGL look. One seems Asian, the other not, so I doubt it's just an "exchange student" thing.

And, I have mentioned before in other Comments here about the pieces being in place: More women wearing high heels, more elaborate hair and makeup trends, more trends towards full, longer, dresses, many with full slips.

It's only a matter of time, though I do wonder what the style's going to be called here in the states. I don't think folks are going to keep the "lolita" word, just because of its negative connotations in Western Culture.

But even so....there is, at the very least, a *business* opportunity here. There's really only ONE store I know of on the North American *continent*, in Vancouver, that is openly *about* EGL fashions. That's going to change. ^_^ The demand will be there...

But hey, what do I know? ^_^ Seems like every time I open my mouth and predict something, things get screwed up somewhere...

That sort of thing has been going on in the anime con circuits for a long time. I remember going to one in 1996 and there was all kinds of EGL stuff going on. It's been an anime-influenced sub-culture in Japan going back to the 1980's. So I wouldn't say it's going to be big in a couple of years based on things you're seeing now, considering that it's been there for a while, and like every other fetish of this nature, it's going to appeal to those who like it. I'd be willing to be that 10 years from now people will still be having this same conversation....

Hmm...

It's possible I guess.

I do know this thing has been going on in Japan since the 1980s, don't get me wrong. And these things do come and go in cycles.

I *do* recall seeing an ad, *way* back when I was still in college, for a *kigurumi* show, back in 1989, 1990 or so? This was even before *I* was aware of my weird doll thing though, so I didn't even know what I was looking at back then.

I guess all I was saying was, *this time* around, things seemed to be so much closer to becoming more mainstream here in the States, that the EGL thing seemed to actually be on the verge of coming out, getting a push, whatever you wish to call it. That it wasn't just going to be this rare, "exchange student" thing anymore.

But hey, I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. My apologies if my enthusiasm was irritating.

I don't really see it happening. The closest you might have gotten was back when ever 12 year old was trying to be a Britney Spears wannabe. You might some someone wearing something like that once in a while, but break out? Not any time soon.

lol Brad Poe, Lolita is not cosplay.
That is not Lolita fashion as in the Japanese street style. That's it's ugly bastard child. Lolita is not going to be mainstream unless you're talking about 'Lolita-done-wrong'.

I can say that the first comment is completely wrong. I don't see this becoming EGL mainstream because in simple words this isn't Lolita. This is as close to Lolita as it is close to couture. Please go back and review what real Lolita from the Japanese Fashion is instead of calling this utter crap Lolita.
