the barbie murders....

is a sci-fi story by john varley as described by evil dolly:

"The Barbie Murders by John Varley is a short story about a detective investigating a seperatist Lunar cult. The cultists transform themselves surgically and mentally to perfectly identical, beautiful, sexless Barbie dolls. The problem is that some are being killed, and how do you find a murderer in a place where everyone is the same as everyone else? It's currently available in the compilation The John Varley Reader."

Hmm, looks like an older book, not one recently published, so maybe Mattel won't sue over this one, *lol*... ;)

But seriously...I have noticed that the trend does seem to associate dolling with "crime" fiction...

There is this book, another I saw on the stands about two years ago called _The Toyer_ that I didn't care for (about a serial crippler of all things) and lest we forget...

My only favorite in this genre: _The Cell_, a movie that came out roughly between the first two _Matrix_ films, and was among other things Jennifer Lopez's *last* halfway serious role as an actress...the film was directed by Tarsem Singh. :) The acting was, eh, sorta there, but you don't watch the movie for that...

You watch it because it has *boatloads* of surreal imagery that plays out like an Intro to ASFR and Dolling, basically. ;)

But I digress...point is, once a year or so, now for the past few years, *somebody* seems to write a crime novel or do a mystery movie where it *looks* like they get our thing, but it's as often a miss (of the "Eeww, how creepy!" variety, as in _The Black Dahlia Murders_) as it is a hit (like _The Cell_).

And then there's that one episode of _CSI_ wherein the "bad guy" is said to have a "control fetish," urghh.... O_O

What can ya do? Can we get a _Dolling for Dummies_ book written up here so folks who *want to* get it can? *lol* ;))
